Thanks to the silent support of Benyamin Netanyahu the outgoing Mayor of Jerusalem Nir Barkat was re-elected at the head of the municipality. Barkat is a secular highly appreciated for its quality of mediation, he managed with great political ability a hard and unique city as Jerusalem while balancing the various religious denominations, the extremists, the Orthodox and the moderates.

The countries of the Gulf Sunni Muslims , under the leadership of the regional power Saudi Arabia, have supported the Syrian rebels with money and weapons in the fight to overthrow Bashar al -Assad ally Iran. Hezbollah , established in 1980 to fight the Israeli occupation forces in southern Lebanon , sent their fighters to fight alongside the army in the civil war in Syria.

Wolf in sheep

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at the United Nations that the new president of Iran Hassan Rouhani is a " wolf in sheep's clothing " and added that Israel is prepared to act alone to prevent Tehran could get to the manufacture of a ' atomic weapon. Netanyahu stated very explicitly that Israel, in the event of failure of diplomacy , is willing to make alone military action against Iran. Israel will never agree that nuclear weapons may come into the hands of a rogue regime that has promised several times in recent years of wanting to wipe Israel off the map.

LIGTH ATTACK - THE INVISIBLE DIPLOMACY

Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and the Head of the Foreign Affairs Committees of the Iranian parliament Hossein Hosseini Naqavi have said in recent days that any Western attack on Syria would assign the right to react against Israel and U.S. bases in the Middle East.

 Russia and China said they would not accept any interventionist position and place his veto any UN resolution against Syria, in particular, the Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov has officially asked to open a discussion at the United Nations to assess the risks of global instability the area due to a hypothetical missile attack U.S. , in consideration of the fact that the evidence of the use of gas Sarin by Assad documentarily have not been presented.

In his first press conference since the election last June, the Iranian president Hassan Rohani said that there would be problems to conduct direct negotiations with the U.S. on the Iranian nuclear issue, as long as national interests are protected and to be put aside language of pressures and threats.

The U.S., according to Rohani, should not follow any hidden agenda and work towards the mutual respect between the two nations. Rohani also criticized the laws passed by the House of Representatives U.S. and the calls by U.S. senators to a tightening of sanctions against Iran.

BLACKLIST HEZBOLLAH

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, welcomed with great satisfaction the decision of the EU to include the military wing of Hezbollah on the blacklist of terrorist organizations, adding, inter alia, that Israel does not distinguish between the army and the political faction of ' organization being two sides of the same coin.

Israeli Prime Minister thanked the leaders of the 28 EU Member States and expressed the hope that the decision would lead to "concrete steps against the organization."

John Kerry’s visit to the Middle East provides several signals on political issues in the region. In particular, it brings back into focus the goal of kick starting the immobile regional peace process.  

The first signal is the American decision for Amman to be the meeting place with the Palestinians. The message is to both Palestinians and Jordanians foreshadowing Jordan’s role in the upcoming settlement process, which, if all goes well, will be looking much healthier in the coming weeks.

On Thursday 25 April, an Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) coming from Lebanon was shot down by Israeli Air Force at 4-5 miles from the city of Haifa. The Hezbollah were pointed out as main “instigators”, but the group spokesman skirted the issue declaring he had no official information to spread. Five days later, on Tuesday 30 April, the military arm of the “Party of God” officially sent its denial. In a video message, the group leader Hassan Nasrallah, explicitly rejected all charges, asserting that Hezbollah do not miss the courage to bear the responsibility of any action it makes. Moreover, he counter attacked warning Israel against taking any military action in Lebanon: contrariwise Israeli beliefs, Nasrallah declared, Lebanese resistance would create real trouble to Israeli army, determined to defend Lebanon from any external aggression.
