On 25 May, the leader of Hezbollah Hassan Nasrallah issued a statement in which it reaffirmed forcefully the support of the Lebanese fighters alongside the troops of Assad and confirming the presence of Hezbollah militants in the Syrian city of al-Qusair, strategic location scenery of heavy fighting last week. On May 28 the city of Hermel, in the Bekaa region, at least has been affected by the launch of seven rockets, but without causing casualties.
In the city of Tripoli, instead, for several days continuing sectarian clashes between the residents of the Sunni neighborhood of Bab al-Tabbaneh and the predominantly Alawite Jabal Mohsen. The violence is concentrated in the vicinity of Syrian Street, which effectively divides the two neighborhoods, through the use of sophisticated weapons, including grenades and automatic weapons, bringing the number of fatalities to 29 since the beginning of the clashes. The security forces do not seem to prove able to contain the violence, however, are expected to decline in the coming days.
Should be reported a mortar shell fired from southern Lebanon into Israeli territory on May 26. Although it is not yet clear who is the author of the launch, it is appropriate to exclude responsibility of Hezbollah, which suggests, most likely, the involvement by Sunni militants out of control.
The security environment in Lebanon will remain highly precarious as a result of the conflict in Syria. The war of Damascus is also likely also to destabilize the political apparatus in Lebanon that, most likely, will be forced to postpone parliamentary elections scheduled for June 20.
